Salman to Make an Exception for Sanjay Dutt

Salman to Make an Exception for Sanjay Dutt

Though he is running out of time, Salman Khan wants to watch his buddy David Dhawan's Rascals before he leaves for Dublin to resume shooting and the director in the meantime is ensuring that the film is screened for all and sundry.

Salman incidentally never watches any film. But since this is his soul-brother Sanjay Dutt's first production, Salman is willing to make an exception.

"Salman is very disturbed by the recent reports suggesting a rift between him and Dutt. He wants to somehow fit a screening of Rascals in his airtight schedule, so he can recommend the film to his fans. It's the least that Salman can do. David was overwhelmed to hear this, since he knows Salman doesn't watch films," says a source.

David spent a delightful Saturday evening with Salman, Ajay Devgn and Sanjay shooting for Bigg Boss.

"We all become the Rascals on the set. It was Salman and Sanju's first day of shooting for the show. Seeing their camaraderie I've decided to cast them together in a comedy," David says.

While other directors and producers tend to be ultra-secretive refusing to let a single soul watch their films before release, David has gone the other route with his new comedy.

Every single day there are two-three screenings for friends, friends of friends, and friends of those friends.

Salman to Make an Exception for Sanjay Dutt

In fact there are so many screenings that Sanjay, who turns a full-fledged producer with "Rascals" has cancelled plans of an elaborate premiere.

David says he is fearless about adverse reports on Rascals being messaged to the audience.

Reasons the simple and straightforward storyteller, "What is there to hide? If my film is funny and interesting I can tell by the preview audiences' reactions that they are entertained. If my film is not interesting then no power on earth and no amount of secrecy can rescue it."

David says there are three sets of previews for Rascals happening simultaneously.

"My friends, Sanju's friends and Ajay's family and friends are holding screenings every day. We want as much feedback as possible," he adds.

Can’t make peace between warring Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan: Preity Zinta

Preity Zinta, a good friend of both Salman and Shah Rukh, says it is beyond her to bring about a truce between the two warring Khans.

But interestingly, Salman is going to appear on Preity’s upcoming chat-show, which is being produced by SRK`s Red Chillies Entertainment.

When asked if she tried to engineer a patch-up between the two superstars, Preity said, "Please...somebody help me escape this question!"

Salman and Preity have worked together in films like `Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega` (2000), `Chori Chori Chupke Chupke` (2001), `Jaaneman` (2006). Most of them bombed at the Box Office.

Shah Rukh and Preity were seen together in `Dil Se` (1998), `Kal Ho Na Ho` (2003), `Veer Zaara` (2004) and `Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna` (2006). All these were hits.

The bubbly actress will have both Salman and Shah Rukh -- thought separately -- on her chat show `Up, Close And Personal With PZ` that will be aired from September 3 on UTV Stars.

Salman not interested in Kamal's Michael Madana Kama Rajan

Earlier, there were reports that Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are fighting for the remake rights of Kamal Haasan's comedy entertainer Michael Madana Kama Rajan (MMKR). In Michael Madana Kama Rajan, which redefined the comedy genre in Tamil cinema, Kamal Haasan played four different roles: Michael, Madan, Kama and Rajan. The film narrated a series of interesting events in the life of quadruplets separated just after birth. The movie was directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao; Kamal had also written and produced it.

It was said that film maker Farah Khan (of Om Shanti Om fame) was keen to remake the film with Salman Khan, while director Priyadarshan wanted to rope in Akshay Kumar for the same film. But Farah Khan has now denied these reports; she also confirmed that her next film, with Salman Khan in lead, will be an original script.

Story:

Pooja aka Sanjana Singh (Asin) runs away from her evil uncles who want to steal all her properties by marrying her to either of their songs. She confronts with Prem (Salman Khan) and eventually they love each other. But Sanjana’s uncles find her and take her away. Prem uses his brains and starts the bluff game. How he marries his girl by making her uncles realize their mistakes is the rest of the story.

Analysis:

Ready is a remake of Telugu hit movie with the same name. Ram, a rising hero played the lead role in it. Salman Khan, who is a superstar, chose to do this role after setting box office on fire with Danbangg. It would be hard for Salman’s mass fans to see him in a sober role which hardly needs to flex his muscles. Especially it will be even harder to accept him in such an ineffective role after that iconic Chulbul Pandey act.

Adding to this director Anees Bazmee’s lackluster screenplay in the first hour made Ready a boring fare. Salman tried his best to infuse life into it but only did in very few instances. Bazmee changed the first half scenes from the original to make it suit to the tastes of Bollywood audience. Although the original’s first hour wasn’t up to the mark it was engaging and in contrast to the second hour which helped big time.

Anees Bazmee tried to make Ready a fulltime entertainer by having too much family drama and so called entertainment in the first half. However, he missed a golden chance of giving the much needed action and mass masala to Salman fans by changing the scenes from the original. Bazmee should have stuck to the original and might have bettered it as he has a superstar at his service. Instead he tried to stick to his image of churning mindless comic capers and that didn’t help for Ready’s course. Most importantly he ruined the character of Paresh Rawal’s which was played by Brahmanandam in the original. For Ready in Telugu this character is the heart and soul and Bazmee failed to understand it.

He retained most of the scenes from the original in second half and few of those worked too. Anees Bazmee tries too hard to make audiences laugh by including vulgar jokes which is absolutely not needed. He could have hired a good translator and translated all the good and neat jokes from the original. Ready, on a whole works only in parts. All the changes that the director brought in prove the fact that he is out of form at the moment.

Dhinka Chika and Character Dheela songs are the saving grace along with Salman’s stunning screen presence. Few jokes here and there worked but Ready is just below the average mark as a wholesome film.

Performances:

Salman Khan is the reason for all the hype surrounding this film and he would be the only savior to make this film a hit or whatever it manages to collect. He did his part so well and used his sense of humor to light up the scenes. His dances in Dhinka Chika are simply superb. Asin looked pale in many scenes and okay in few. An actress of Kareena’s caliber is needed to play this role. Paresh Rawal is good but the director didn’t use his talent properly. There is a horde of artists and everyone did their bit.

Tehnicalities:

Devi Sri Prasad rocked his Bollywood debut with his Dhinka Chika the new chant of B town. Pritam is the main music composer and he is good with his Character Dheela number. Background score is too loud. Dialogues by Farhad are just okay. Sunil Patel’s cinematography is up to the mark. Most of the film is done indoors and even then the cinematographer managed to pull it off with colorful cinematography. Art department played their part in doing so.

Anees Bazmee’s humor sparkled here and there. Putting the interval card as ‘Pee Break’ which later changes to ‘Tee break’ is good. Also the timing in the scene in climax chase sequence where a bike runs over a goon’s leg is hilarious. Bazmee should have stayed loyal to the original script for better results.

Plus Points:

- Salman Khan
- Comedy in the second hour
- Dhinka Chika, Character Dheela songs

Minus points:

- Boring first hour
- No mass masala elements
- Action part is too weak for a Salman film

Final Word: Ready – Not a tailor made film for Salman. But he tries his best to ‘fit’ in.

'Ready' revolves around Salman and I don't mind it: Asin

'Ready' revolves around Salman Khan and I don't mind it: Asin Thottumkal

She is the leading lady in 'Ready' but actress Asin Thottumkal says she has no problems with Salman Khan hogging the limelight in the film's promotions.

"When a film stars Salman Khan, it is but natural that the script is written to accentuate his presence in the film. It is also logical to have the film revolve around him. The same has to reflect in the promos as well where his style and mannerisms are exposed to the audience," Asin told the media.

The Annes Bazmee directorial is the third Hindi film for the 25-year-old actress, who has decided to work in only one big Bollywood venture a time and wait for the results rather than pick up multiple projects.

"This was a conscious decision. I waited for the best offer to come my way and I got that in the form of 'Ready' where I get to play a solo heroine in a commercial film with Salman and Anees Bazmee," said Asin.

And the actress has the trend continuing with her next film 'Housefull 2' as well, where she has Akshay Kumar for company. With almost a decade's experience in South Indian films, Asin debuted in Bollywood opposite Aamir Khan in 'Ghajini'.

Despite being in showbiz for so long and working with superstars, the actress says she hasn't let fame get to her head.

'Ready' revolves around Salman Khan and I don't mind it: Asin Thottumkal

"I am a grounded person, mainly because of the kind of upbringing that I have had. My parents are very down to earth people and that is one reason why I never try to fly high.

Being a part of the industry hasn't changed one bit of me or my family over the years," she said.

I feel everyday that I still have to prove a point.

I don't consider myself as someone who is so big that her success could go to her head," she said.

Salman is called Prem in 'Ready', which sparked off rumours that the actor is set to re-create his onscreen chemistry with Madhuri Dixit from the hit movie 'Hum Aapke Hai Kaun'.

But Asin dismissed them as mere speculation. "I don't know from where did these Madhuri-Salman talks start. In fact while I was shooting for the film, I wasn't even thinking of Madhuri or making any conscious effort to recreate it. We just went ahead and followed the script."

"I am sure that I hadn't got any such brief. If at all such stories started making rounds, it was after the shooting was through. Perhaps some people saw a still or two from the film and started bringing on comparisons with Madhuri or Aishwarya. I can assure though that all of this is plain speculation," she said.
